Songs of 1989
Songs of 1989
1989 was a very fruitful year of song writing and recording.
Heart For Hire
"When I was dreaming big still, I even came up with an album concept. The album title would have been “Heart for Hire” and this one would have been the title song. Simple but rocking." — George Lewe

Lyrics
Isn't it a pitty when you've got a heart to give
but no woman for to receive?
Isn't it a pitty rambling all night around,
alone from bar to bar?
Isn't it a pitty at all?
I've got a heart for hire. I've got a heart for hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
I've got a heart for hire. I've got a heart for hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
Is any volent woman there?
I wake up in the morning with a pillow like stone
and none for a kiss at dawn.
My room has got a window but not light is coming in.
Everything is sad and dark.
And nobody's taking care.
I've got a heart for hire. I've got a heart for hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
I've got a heart for hire. I've got a heart for hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
Is any volent woman there?
Solo (Guitar)
I've got a heart to hire. I've got a heart to hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
I've got a heart for hire. I've got a heart for hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
Is any volent woman there?
I go to bed at night with a pillow like a stone
and none for a lullaby.
And it doesn't matter if the light is on or off.
Everything is sad and dark.
And nobody's taking care.
Solo (Piano)
I've got a heart to hire. I've got a heart to hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
I've got a heart for hire. I've got a heart for hire.
And the rent is not too high. The rent is not too high.
Is any volent woman there?
Gwenoele
"You may have had one of those typical summer vacation flings. Gwenoele was mine, somewhere in the 80s somewhere in France. Never saw her again but wrote and recorded this great song about it in 1989." — George Lewe

Lyrics
When I saw you sitting on your chair
I could not avoid to stare.
I felt the chain you tied up all around me.
I never felt that way before
as I did standing at that door.
For a moment time was holding on.
What a mystery was going on, Gwenoele, Gwenoele.
Yes you touched me deep inside, Gwenoele.
Your eyes were holding me so tight, Gwenoele.
I can hardly keep my mind, Gwenoele,
Now that I know you, Gwenoele,
Now that I know you.
When I's sitting left beside you,
I wish that I could hide you,
So none else could see your lovely skin and hair.
When your voice began to talk to me,
Every word a melody,
It was music singing tenderly.
What a mystery was going on, Gwenoele, Gwenoele.
Yes you touched me deep inside, Gwenoele.
Your eyes were holding me so tight, Gwenoele.
I can hardly keep my mind, Gwenoele,
Now that I know you, Gwenoele,
Now that I know you.
The letter that you wrote to me
Brought to me this melody.
It makes me happy when I sing this song for you.
And I'm longing for the day now, Gwen,
When I look in your eyes again.
The day, I know, when your first word will conquer me.
What a mystery is going on, Gwenoele, Gwenoele.
Yes you touched me deep inside, Gwenoele.
Your eyes were holding me so tight, Gwenoele.
I can hardly keep my mind, Gwenoele,
Now that I know you, Gwenoele,
Now that I know you.
8. December
"An instrumental. A good friend of mine wrote it. We played in a band together, both of us were Beatles fans. The 8th of December 1980, the day John Lennon was devastating, hit us both very hard. We came together, arranged and recorded the song together. We dedicated it to John." — George Lewe

Hello Woman
"Admittedly not a great recording. My voice is weak at times and the instrumentation is not perfect either. But as much as I don't like those weaknesses, I always thought the song itself is not bad at all. I love the refrain and the guitar licks." — George Lewe

Lyrics
There is a woman made of that special wood
That forms a seldom kind,
she's all a man wants to find.
And here's a man, a simple man
Who loves that woman so
like she will never know.
So, Hello woman
Here is your man.
I love you woman, with all my heart.
I love you woman, as much as I can.
I love you woman, as deep as I can do, as I can do.
There is a female heart so soft and warm,
Like your deepest bed, like a love made oven.
And here's a male, male heart, and every little place
Is filled up with her softness, filled up with her warmth.
So, Hello woman
Here is your man.
I love you woman, with all my heart.
I love you woman, as much as I can.
I love you woman, as deep as I can do, as I can do.
It seems that fate decides that his love is to hide
And that she should never know what she means to him.
But this man is hoping still, hoping this woman will
Get it clear some day and come to him to say:
So, Hello man
Here is your woman.
I love you man, with all my heart.
I love you man, as much as I can.
I love you man, as deep as I can do, as I can do.
I Wish
"I wanted to do a simple accoustic guitar song, nothing fancy or special. Some basic chords and a nice melody. This is what I came up with." — George Lewe

Lyrics
I wish you were my woman
And I would be your man.
And each of us is giving
everything he can.
And none can come between us
And none can ever tore us apart.
None else in my heart,
no, no, no, no, no, none but you.
I wish we'd live together
And go through thick an thin.
I'm on your side and you're on mine
So we can only win.
And none can come between us
And none can ever tore us apart.
None else in my heart,
no, no, no, no, no, none but you.
I wish we'd sleep together
And hold us in our arm.
And never would I do you
Or you me any harm.
And nothing can come between us
And none can ever tore us apart.
None else in my heart,
no, no, no, no, no, none but …
no, no, no, no, no, none but …
no, no, no, no, no, none but you.
The Plant
"My good friend Christoph liked this one a lot. He still claims today that it is one of my best compositions. He is a great pianist and suggested to record it together. So the cool keyboard parts (e.g. beginning and end) are his doing." — George Lewe

Lyrics
Did I tell you something about a gone true love of mine,
How we shared the bread and wine.
And I can't deny that many layers of this love
Grow in my head and in my heart.
So I sing this song to the plant they do belong,
Uhh, I think she knows.
I think she knows.
Genug (1989 Version)
"When a producer came by in 1987 to listen to my material, he said that “Genug” would be my first hit song. He was serious I think. Well, it is a good song that sticks to your ear. There are actually two recordings of it. One from 1987, the original, and one reproduction from 1989. I thought I could do it a bit better but I learned that only rarely you can catch that feeling again from the first recording." — George Lewe

Lyrics
